The Real Uncle Alan
What was Philips plan to kill Uncle Alan? What happened instead?

Philip describes himself and Uncle Alan by saying, “The Read Uncle Alan inside the pretend Uncle Alan” and “The real Philip inside the pretend Philip” (pg 211-212). What do you think that means?

Pocket Money

“Mrs. Fell always says things like this. She is nice but she doesn’t understand some things. She doesn’t know that time is not like pocket money that you can spend because time is the person spending the pocket money and the pocket money is you” (pg. 215). Analyze this quote

Mrs. Fell asked Philip where he would go if he was able to go anywhere. Where did he say he wanted to go?

We learn a little more about Mrs. Fell’s character. What do we learn?

Why do you think Philip wants to “believe in” Mrs. Fell so badly? (pg. 218)

Philip describes himself and Uncle Alan by saying, “The Real Uncle Alan inside the pretend Uncle Alan” and “The real Philip inside the pretend Philip” (pg 211-212). What do you think that means?

The pretend Uncle Alan is cordial with Philip because he doesn't want ruin his relationship with Philips mother but the real Uncle Alan wants to dismiss Philip from their lives. The pretend Philip is polite to Uncle Alan so he doesn't stir up any trouble before killing Uncle Alan to get his revenge.

    Pocket Money

“Mrs. Fell always says things like this. She is nice but she doesn’t understand some things. She doesn’t know that time is not like pocket money that you can spend because time is the person spending the pocket money and the pocket money is you” (pg. 215). Analyze this quote

He is saying that our lives our run by the time we have. You cant pick and choose how you spend your time because life is not predictable and we are only human.

Mrs. Fell asked Philip where he would go if he was able to go anywhere. Where did he say he wanted to go?

He first said he wanted to go to Rhodes with his mother and father. But after Mrs. Fell tells Philip his dads dead, he changes his response to Rome with just his mother to satisfy her expectation.

We learn a little more about Mrs. Fell’s character. What do we learn?

That she wanted to be an actress instead of a teacher.

Why do you think Philip wants to “believe in” Mrs. Fell so badly?

Because he wants to continue to see her the way he does now instead of seeing her as a lie and change his perception on Mrs. Fell.
