The First Time I saw Dad After He Died

What does Philip’s Nan tell him at the funeral? Why might this be significant to Philip’s character?

What were Big Vic and Les smoking at the pub?

What was suggested about why Carla got a divorce?

Where did Philip first see his father’s ghost?

King of the CASTLE

What is the pubs name?

What was Philip’s dad’s ghost wearing?

Do you find Philip’s reaction to seeing his father’s ghost realistic? Why or why not?

The Bad News

How did Philip’s dad die?

Philip took time to describe the Policeman. How did Philip describe him and why do you think that’s significant?

Why might the author have certain words in all capitals, like WOLF? What else do you notice about the way the book is written? (Does it sound like an 11 year old boy speaking? What about the spacing and placement of the words in certain chapters?)

The First Time I Saw Dad After He Died
    1) Philip's Nan said that he is not a boy but he isn't a man either she's saying that he is going to have more responsibility now and that he is going to be the man in the house.
2)Big Vic and Les were smoking cigars.
3)"Carla always talked to men since her divorce and since she stopped falling over and getting the bruises" this hints that she was getting beaten by her husband.
    4) He first saw him at the day of the funeral at the pub when Nan was talking to him,
    King Of The Castle
    5) The name of the Pub Castle and Falcon.
    6) his father was wearing a T shirt which said King of the CASTLE written in red and capital letters like on the sign outside of the pub.
    7) No we do not find his reaction realistic because in reality we think that a boy his age would have been scared and mystified by the appearance of a ghost instead of being calm and accepting of the ghost.
    The Bad News
    8) His father crashed into a bridge outside of Calham due to someone who knows a lot about cars tampering with it.
9)Philip described the Policeman's movements with the news that he was giving to Philip's mother. We think that this is significant because it shows that Philip is very observant and smart for his age and he understands that different movements explain different emotions .
    10) The author most likely wrote this way with some words written in capital letters because he is putting an emphasis on the importance of the word and how important it plays in the story. The novel isn't really written in the Standard form of English instead it is written as the way that an eleven year old usually speaks. This makes the novel more interesting because it is very descriptive on how Philip feels about things and view things such as the way that he see's his father.
