That commercial was very poignant and moving. It was sweet to see all of these people helping one another, and thinking that it all starts from one small act of kindness. If the world had a little more kindness, coming in the form of even the smallest, most seemingly insignificant acts as demonstrated in the video, the world would be a better place because everyone would be thinking of others. Even a small act of kindness can make another person's day. Videos with messages like that are very important and should be remembered.
ReplyDeleteIf someone helps you than it might influence you to help someone else. It is true I have helped a lot of people at work because people helped me. Any little good thing you do can make a difference in someone else day. It might make the next persons day better.

ReplyDeleteBased on the reflection from today I feel as though the video had a positive message. The meaning was that if you gave a little help to someone then eventually something good would happen to you. That is true to some degree but some people are naturally selfish and wouldn't lend a helping hand to someone who could use one
ReplyDeleteThe video had a pretty strong message behind it. It makes you understand that even if you do a little thing for someone, you can get a little thing done to you because you did a good deed for someone else. It shows a since of karma but not fully karma, its just that you should do a good deed not to receive a good deed back but just to do it because you want to make a change in the world.
ReplyDeleteI thought that all though the video did have come cheesey, the message that it sent was good. Showing kindness and helping others is always a good thing to do, and good deeds often have a way of causing other good deeds. I try to helpful or nice things when I can and I hope it's nice to think that those deeds inspire others.

This morning reflection which was titled, "it will change your life" was touching and moved me. It was a prime example of helping others and how it goes a long way. There are too many people who standby and watch as tragedy is right about to occur when they could help prevent it. Those who are valiant enough to take charge and protect or guide another is something truly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteToday's morning reflection was inspirational. It was a simple video that had such a greater message behind it. I liked seeing how each person was connected by a simple act of kindness. Overall, the video was heartwarming and made me want to help at least one person today.

If you take a little time out of your day to help others, it helps to sweeten everyone's day. It was a simple video that was very inspirational as well.
ReplyDeleteI chose this video for this morning reflection because I thought it was moving and inspirational to help people out and make something great. I liked how a lot of people came together helping out people in need. I thought that the world would be better if everyone just helped out each other and come together.
ReplyDeleteToday's video showed how one helping another can cause a chain reaction which causes more helping hands to act. However the video was set with many pre-conceived notions of a world where that many people help others. That is just not the society we live in. People wave guns before hands and argue before talking there issues out as human beings on the same level.

ReplyDeleteRonsel's silencing is a metaphor for the entire novel because in each relationship Jordan created, there is a person silenced. Laura is silenced by Henry and his patriarchal control over her. Hap and Florence are silenced by the color of their skin and how in society, it makes them less than men like Jamie and Henry and women who look like Laura. Jamie is silenced by his fear of the war. Hilary Jordan breaks this silence by giving characters like Ronsel and his parents a voice, and an influence over her plot and the story.
This video was very inspirational. Helping others can be a cycle, starting from one kind act and leading to another. Being generous can really make a person's day. Even if it seems small to you, it's a big thing to the person you help. Lending a helping hand from the kindness of your heart without wanting nothing in return can inspire others to do the same.
ReplyDeleteRosalia’s morning reflection was really great. It focused on just showing love to people you might not even know and how you can receive love back. There were examples of saving someone to just reaching out and being nice. It was an overall inspiring video and makes you want to help others.

It was a great way to show all of us that helping each other is a better way since there's a lot of things that are going on and we just need to be together and help and understand each other .

ReplyDeleteMike Wade and James Goff History Discussion Question
In what ways is Mudbound concerned with racial etiquette , i.e., the ruled (both written and unwritten) about how black people are supposed to behave in the presence of white people? When and why did this concern first manifest itself? What purpose did it serve?
Mudbound explores the “rules of racism” by comparing the ways that people naturally treat black people and themselves and how that conflicts with the way they are expected to act. Examples of this would be when Ronsel, after being far away from the societal racism of america for years returns and attempts to leave out the front door and but is stopped. As well as when Laura speaks with Ronsel in a casual manner as if he is friends, before quickly changing tone when the rest of the women in the store give her looks of disapproval. Time and time again people find themselves quickly having to change their actions in order to continue works within the “rules of racism”. All of which were put in place to continue separating the blacks from the whites in every way possible, societal norms that traced all the way from the beginnings of African Slavery.

The Mississippi Delta is located between the Mississippi river and the Yazoo river. It is known as "The most southern place on earth" because of the history of the river and the treatment that of the people that lived around the river hundreds of years ago. It is "Southern" because it had the most southern actions done their such as racism. The Mississippi area was a very racist place in America during slavery times. A delta is formed at the mouth of the river which can leave the land around the delta very fertile for agriculture, this be the reason why the author decided to have this story mostly take place in this area. It also has an effect on people social life changing the way they things or how they think of people.
ReplyDeleteIf the novel was made into a movie. I would cast some out going people. Someone who is not afraid to step out their comfort zone and who is willing to act as someone they are not. A section that particularly caught my attention was the beginning when Jamie thought Henry was going to leave him in the ditch, because I would not even walk away from a ditch and my brother is in it. That showed me that Henry is not so good at being a good brother. He also is jealous of Jamie so I know Henry is capable of leaving him down and out anywhere. Non of the sections really dragged to me. Maybe how Lora and Henry met and how she got to know the family was a little dragging.

1. The northwest portion of the Southern state of Mississippi, between the Yazoo and Mississippi Rivers. The Delta plays into the novel socially because it has history in the Civil War and twice the number of whites. This is a very cultural region, and racism is a very prevalent there, as in the book. Geographically, the delta was a place that has historically grown rich from agricultural production, which plays well into the story.
2. The intersection of the two different historical time periods is apparent in certain characters, such as Ronsel. He was treated with equally while fighting in WW2, but when he came home he was returned to the harsh treatment his people were used to. He, just like the other blacks in the war, mistakenly thought that things would be different when he came back home.
3. Throughout the novel, the whites hinted at the etiquette they were supposed to treat blacks with. Even though they wanted to be nice to them, they didn’t want to be frowned upon or looked at differently because of it. This idea of a certain behavior for black people manifested itself when Ronsel came home. He wanted to exit the store through the front door, however some white men made him go through the back door because that’s the way black people were supposed to act. This event served to show the reader how intense this mindset was. Also, it was meant to be a reality check to Ronsel about the treatment of his people.
4. During this time period white males feared miscegenation because they felt it would be an abomination for a white women to be with a black man. This was a reflection of superior whites felt to blacks. Overall, the white males didn’t respect their women let alone the black women. These fears are so central to Ronsel because he has had a history of being with white women.
5. Hillary Jordan uses fiction to illuminate postwar history of the racist south by creating a realistic historical fiction novel. By using raw facts and historical evidence, her story is believable,.

Today's morning reflection was titled "Video that will change your life. I have no words left"; this video was a powerful message for people that should help others that are in need of it. This motivated me to help other with kindness and love because they will return it back. As also it shows that we all should be together and help each other at all times.

ReplyDelete-This particular time period intersects with the previous history by change. People living in the Delta are stuck in the past, not accepting change. They continue to see black people as lower class and behave as if they don't deserve respect. In World War II, black people served in the army and fought for America. They seen how society was like in other countries and when the war was over, they came back thinking that things would change race-wise. When Ronsel comes back home to Hap and Florence after the war, he expected to have some respect from the people there but was treated as though he did nothing and deserved nothing.
-Mudbound has always been about racial etiquette ever since Henry and Laura met Hap and Florence. It was especially when Pappy was introduced. In the novel, a majority of white people expected black people to treat them with respect and dignity; while black people weren't treated like that in return. When Ronsel used the front door, it was considered a disgrace because they wanted him to use the back door just because of his race.
-The fear of miscengenation from white males is because they see women as property. White males have always treated black males negatively, so they see different race relationships as black males "stealing" what's theirs- and vise versa with white females and black females. This influences the treatments towards women by increasing hostility. White males can become violent or forbid the women from getting too close to black males, and they can treat the black women very badly with racism and violence as well. Because of the time period, women couldn't really stand up for themselves and were looked down upon if they had a lover that wasn't white. Ronsel gets into a lot of trouble because the community racists find out that he has a white woman as a wife and had a kid with her. What happens to him afterwards really shows how much the white males fear change and unity.

The Mississippi delta is a region in between the Mississippi river and the yazoo rivers. It has a lot of surrounding water making it very muddy and wet hence the title Mudbound. The water also makes the land very beneficial for growing crops. Back then they used the Mississippi delta especially for its agricultural ability to grow cotton so well. This obviously was one of the harsh labors they used slaves for. After that time period is when the book takes place which is why the Mississippi delta is so highly racist. Its referred to as the most southern place on earth because people there are very pro racism. That is where the conflicts and backgrounds of each character comes into play. The setting plays a big part in the conflict.

The Mississippi Delta seem to play as a place into the novel geographically and socially because how the region is flat and contains most of the fertile soil in the whole world. The region was a very racist part of the Americas during slavery times as in a reason to why the author had chosen the place. This particular time with the immediate aftermath of WW2 intersect with the previous history of the Delta because as Ronsel was fighting in the war he was treated equally as others. But as he comes back home thinking that everything has changed but he comes back to be treated harsh. Hillary Jordan uses fiction to illuminate the immediate postwar history of race creating a fiction that is realistic using actual facts and evidence making her book believable.
