HMWK: Read Part 2 of Mudbound for Thursday discussion
"Full Frontal" is one of my favorite shows to watch in terms of political news and opinions, along with Stephen Colbert. Samantha Bee's brutally honest and thought provoking sarcasm on the Pulse Night Club shooting was insanely effective on the viewer. Bee mixes humor, heartbreak, and outrage into a short seven-minute clip that needs to be viewed by all who have the power to change gun laws and ultimately save lives.
ReplyDeleteOkay, but Full Frontal with Samantha Bee is actually so good? Too good. But anyway, her discussion of the Florida Mass Shooting(s) was basically the highlight of the flaws of the American Gun System. It was not the Da'esh that caused that man to shoot 100 and some homosexuals, it was not only because of his homophobia or his apparent mental illnesses, it was the leniance of Florida and overall American gun laws to get him to go to the nearest gun store, buy and AK-45 rifle and put more than to bullets in every person he shot.
ReplyDeleteYet, we're not doing anything about it. We're told, instead, to sit and pray for the ones who lost their lives and pray once more for the next mass shooting, that happens every day now, and close our eyes and ears to the problem itself. We're not getting rid of the problem, we're just finding more excuses for why it happened; either terrorist groups, mental illnesses they may or may not suffer, or even their anger issues. It's never pointed at their personal hate for someone else, it's never about guns themselves, it's the people, which is obviously not the case with Canada's example.
"Full Frontal" with Samantha Bee was very powerful. I liked it because her use of sarcasm made a touchy subject easier to talk about and understand. She touched on the ridiculous gun laws in the country and the 2nd amendment. The tone throughout the video was a good way to talk about the issues with guns in America. She used sarcasm as a way to mock the government of Orlando which, in irony, was very effective.
ReplyDeleteSamantha Bee, through her video, was able to shed light on a very serious topic that plagues American society. Gun control has been a problem for such a long time, but that being said, there hasn't been much that the government has done about it. This video reminded of the movie "Bowling for Columbine" which begins with a man walking into a bank and then attempting to purchase a gun after explaining that he suffers from mental illness. He is not turned away, and instead is allowed to buy one. This sort of lenient policy is pretty disturbing and strikes fear into the American public. Mass shootings, whether it be Sandy Hook or Orlando, are still prevalent today and the gun policies that we have are a main part of the problem.
ReplyDeleteThe show "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" is very effective in communicating the societal issues that the United States currently face. Because of her sarcastic and blunt tone, she is able to convey the severity of the events that have recently occurred, particularly mass shootings. My only complaint about Samantha Bee is that to some she may seem insensitive as she makes fun of murder in certain parts of her show, but that is the style she is going for. It's really a particular taste.
ReplyDeleteSamantha Bee's discussion of the Florida Shootings and gun laws was spot on. The fact that the Orlando Night Club shooting wasn't even the first one of that weekend speaks volumes about how lenient and uncontrolled our gun laws are; the fact that anyone like the Orlando shooter can just purchase such a powerful weapon with no questions asked is ridiculous and harmful; the fact that artists and fans can't even consider concerts a safe space anymore is disheartening. It's been proven other countries that stricter gun laws ensures a safer society, but our country, for what reason I can't even think of, still feels like it's our right to have a gun in our possession; let's be honest, you don't need a machine gun to keep your family "safe". Until gun laws are stricter, none of us are safe from a person with a gun who could crack at any moment.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything Samantha Bee had said in regard to mass gun violence. When people say the government should regulate gun violence, they don't mean take away the second amendment they mean stop regular people obtain military grade weapons with little to no background check. This is happening to much in our country, not only is black unarmed men are being shot down like Jews in a concentration camp, but too many people are being killed in places you should feel safe in. I mean I can't even go to the movies or school without feeling someone is going to shoot up the building. This is beginning to be too much and we need to change this destructive behavior before nobody is alive to shoot anymore.

I also agreed with what she said about gun laws no body needs these kind of weapons that are used in warfare. Mostly because they’re dangerous, and even more useless than any other gun. This video was also interesting to me because this style of news is often done by men Steven Colbert, Trevor Noah the Daily show but not women and when it is done by women it doesn’t compare but Samantha did a good job just as good as male hosts.
ReplyDeleteThat segment on Samantha Bee's show "Full Frontal" was hilarious while it talked on serious issues. I loved the segment and love the show, but was a bit offended by the whole "God" part. I am a christian and the verse she quoted (James 2:17) was taken out of context. If you have no faith in God and are just praying it wont get you anywhere, but if you truly believe that he can help you through prayer he will help you. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says,"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." if you truly seek God in a time of need he will help you. He will hear you. That was my only issue with the video. I hate when people mock a faith that I and millions of people have and take it out of context and twist the Bible's words.

ReplyDeleteI thought that the Samantha Bee clip was pretty entertaining, even though she was speaking on a heavy topic. She made several valid points and was able to back them up with fact while making it amusing, which I appreciated. I strongly agree with everything she was saying about the gun laws and mass shootings. Overall, I enjoyed this morning's reflection.

Samantha Bee opened a discussion on mass shootings in our country while touching on some very serious gun control topics. Her tone was very blunt with humorous undertones that headlined the stupidity of some gun laws and the way that these shootings happened. She addressed how normal these shootings have become and how even through all of the killings the NRA still protects these laws that are only enabling more killing.

ReplyDeleteAs time progresses in our sane and peaceful country filled with liberty and freedom, mass shootings are as prevalent as ever. Samantha Bee exposed the dirty truths of our ridiculous gun laws and the people in charge of those. Will this trend continue to ravish the oh so "United" states, or will we finally put an end to the unnecessary gun laws? As the number of casualties are rising, there is a direct connection with the consistancy of naiveté in our officials.

ReplyDeleteSamantha Bee’s perspective on gun laws was a powerful message to people watching. She touched upon the Florida Mass Shooting that recently happened, and she also shows the statistics of mass shootings in the United States compared to other countries. It reveals how lenient our gun laws are and how we are truly letting each other kill one another, I mean because hey, it’s basically the law. The government might as well make murder legal. She makes it known that there is no right way out of this, and religion cannot be a way to fix what is happening in reality. She makes a point of people praying and how even if they prayed mass shootings still occurred, so what is an actual reasonable way to stop the gun violence? There have been plenty of incidents to prove that passing strict gun policies will help this issue. But the real issue is getting the government to understand that we are going to eventually become casualties of ourselves if we don’t find a stop to this reoccurring problem within the United States.

ReplyDeleteThe Samantha Bee video is a truthful video about the gun laws in the united states. She gives us examples of gun laws from her perspective and facts about the gun laws. State governments aren't doing anything to stop these mass shootings.

She discussed the way our country compares to other's on the subject of mass shootings. She has a sarcastic and blunt tone, with offsets the seriousness of the topic and makes it more emotionally accessible to many audiences.

ReplyDeleteThe Samantha bee video was not just entertaining and factual, it shed comedic light on a situation and law that has been kept in the dark for years before now. The fact wither or not gun laws should be put in place due to all the mass shootings going on now. She heavily uses brutal description to bring out reaction.
