  7. I really enjoyed "To This Day," it was a touching video. Shane's words really made me empathize with everything he was speaking on and also reminded me of some of the things I've gone through throughout my years on school. The images in the video were very symbolic at times, and I liked what every image stood for. It was very interesting to watch and even better to hear the words he spoke. Overall, I truly loved "To This Day."

  8. The spoken word of "To This Day" paired with the visuals made the words that much more powerful. It spoke about an important issue that plagues many adolescents today because of the stress and bullying that comes with high school. The speaker spoke with such emotion and purpose that I was forced to be moved by this piece. The animation brought all of the feelings and doubts of teens to life and created an environment where anyone watching can completely understand what these kids were going through, no matter their personal experience. The entire production, including the tone of voice, animation, and music created a piece that had a certain power to it that cannot be ignored.

  9. "To This Day" is a spoken word piece about the serious struggles many young people go through during adolescence, such as bullying, depression, family struggles, and suicide. Even if one has not gone through these specific experiences, it is one of the most relatable pieces of poetry a teenager can hear. The beautiful animation, tasteful music, and the speaker's incredible talent for the art made this piece extraordinary and extremely impactful.

  10. "To This Day" is one of my favorite pieces of spoken word poetry. I said it on a speech competition last year and it was one of my favorite speeches I spoke. It is an inspirational piece talking about the struggles of being bullied. It shows how little people know about bullying. Or how much it can affect a person. How hard it is to live with these "demons". This video makes you feel the pain with Shane and with the others stories.

And for the people who do struggle with anything named in the video it makes you feel heard. Overall his emphasis really put this piece together. I never tire of watching this amazing video.

  11. "To this day" delivered a powerful and truthful message. I understand the point of the video and I liked it but I think it lasted too long. The abuse people face should be recognized but after awhile you stop listening and become disinterested. A video like this hits close to home for a lot of people and it should inspire people to look for the signs and stop bullying.

  13. To This Day is a spoken word piece discussing about the woes and consequences of bullying, the way it shifts one self esteem even after the fact. How it continues the rapidly increasing numbers of teens with depression, whether they carry out suicide, or infringe their confidence so much that they could never do their best because they're frantically pulling away from any sense of self-worth.

Keep note, that the difference of the animation styles seem to additionally represent more people than the speaker discusses that dealt with this, and you can feel it in their animation.

His methods is heavily appealing to the pathos and how his tone and voice holds a strength that is almost fragile, and I believe that's the point. To be a model for people struggling with these situations that they can survive, but they won't survive in one piece.

But who ever is in one piece after living a number of years?

  14. To this day was a inspirational video of how much words can affect ones self esteem more than the one spewing the words realizes. Its more than just a one day word that gets brushed of a persons shoulder, more in fact a person carries that with them for the rest of there life and it gets embedded within there mind set.

  15. "To This Day" was very effective in conveying its message because of the video's use of animation and music to accompany the poem. The reader's voice was smooth and clear, which added to the effect as well. The message was inspiring, though some of the author's language was muddled and difficult to understand.

  16. The speech was very inspirational and true on how we see things today. We all have different definitions of beauty, but the wrong one is physical beauty. The one that says you are not worthy of attention, respect, and love because you're not beautiful. That the words "sticks and bones may break my bones, but words never hurt me", well tell that to my second grade self. I've contemplated suicide twice, once in second grade and once in fifth grade. All because of words. I've been called fat, ugly, stupid, and worthless. I've been played and prodded all because I'm not beautiful and not attractive. Why can't people see people for their personalities and not their perceived beauties? That's the question I ask myself that question everyday and yet can't find the answer. One day I hoe somebody will and soon.

  17. The video "To this day" is a very powerful word spoken poem that touches everyday lives. We live in a world where people are traumatized by their child hood and do not know how to function from the huge impact it has left on them. Coming of age and having to function with such terrible past can really screw you up in the long run.

  18. This poem, "To This Day", was very strong and very moving. I liked the poem a lot. I thought the reoccurring theme of how these children grew up bullied and sad and how that marks them even in adult life was really powerful. It shows how our actions can have a lasting affect even long after they've happened, which is really important for people to know.

  19. "To This Day" was an amazing spoken word piece about the consequences of harmful words and statements, especially those stemming in adolescence. "Sticks and stones" and "kids are cruel" are often the phrase we were told as kids when someone would call us a "mean" name, and with that we were taught to just ignore meanness from then on out; but words are powerful and have even more powerful affects. Kids are never going to stop being mean to each other, but actually discussing the words that are hurting a child or even an adult is a much more, maybe even more effective, method than just plainly saying "kids will be kids".

  20. To This Day brings light upon the darkness and miseries of many adolescents lives. It brings inspiration to those who feel like they do not fit into a social class; there's nothing wrong with not fitting into a specified social caste. Shane Koyczan hopes to bring about new aspirations in troubled lives, and to look at the positive aspects of life. I also really liked the rhyme scheme |:^]

  21. To this day was a powerful spoken word piece with visuals. I've seen this video many times this is powerful because he tells his own stories while addressing different topics through the stories of others. For example the the girl with the scare on her face, and the boy who had to take pills. As kids I think everyone can relate to this because whether it is a minor case or like the one described in this video we've all been "bullied". The images in the video were also jarring and striking, things you wouldn't associate with bullying.

  23. "To this day" was very breath-taking in my opinion because of how Shane Koyczan speaks about bullying and how we were told as kids "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" but in reality, words do hurt. words can lead to a person committing suicide.

  25. "To This Day" is a spoken word piece about a battle that many fight within themselves. This comes as a result of mental illness, bullying, problems at home, or other circumstances where someone could feel as though they are alone. The rhythm and power of its words make the piece extremely effective in creating awareness of that struggle.

  26. To This Day was an excellent spoken word poem that has been viral from the last five years. Shane Koyczan made depression into a beautiful thing as he went on to talk about an example of a really young boy who was called one nickname and how that one thing made him decide that he was going to spend the rest of his life alone and full of depression, proving that things like this start young and not everyone realizes that what you may say to someone in the past, can potentially affect their whole future as a person. The animations intrigued the viewers a lot more, showing vivid and triggering images to reveal the hidden struggles of bullied kids.

  27. The “To this day” video was moving. It was very relatable. The “sticks and stones” is so truthful and no one really thinks of it like that because they don’t understand how bad words hurt. And the “branch on a different family tree” was personal because I’m adopted myself and many kids, even me don’t understand and they end up thinking they are not good enough and that’s why their parents gave them up because they are too young to understand. Also the “way up in a mountain and the way down is a cliff” is powerful because so many kids feel trapped and sad and it’s a hard place to get out of in that time of someone’s life. I related to this video a lot and I was very moved by a lot of the things he was saying.
