Richard has been left, twice in his life, by women that he loves very deeply: his mother and Clarissa. He is used to having only a temporary sort of love that doesn't stay for long, but still is always there. It led him to make more reckless decisions, and perhaps not trust any natural instincts.

Virginia Woolf is a good role model for feminism. Despite her insanity, she wrote about and advocated for the female mind, and for feminine decisions that come from being an individual, with wants and needs and opinions. She was a respected female artist in her time, and is considered to be one of the greatest writers of all time.

    5) Clarissa doesn't seem completely happy with the life that she created for herself. Clarissa felt that without Richard her life isn't as complete as it should be. Clarissa love for him has a hold over the choices that she make and the things that she decided that she want to do, if Clarissa didn't have such a deep love for Richard she would have more freedom to live her life the way that she wants.
    2) Richard's childhood could be the reason why the love that he experienced was kept at bay. His mother tat he loved so deeply walked out on him and he feels that the love that he has for both Louis and Clarissa could end the same way that the love for his mother ended.

  3. 6) Virginia wolf is a complete role model for feminist as we see her stand up for her own rights by not letting any other person or man tell her where how or what has to be done in her own life, she forces the expression "no ones knows you better than yourself".

  4. 1)Clarissa and Richards mother leaving him created characteristics in which most women wouldn't like, having the fear of being abandoned one mostly becomes obsessive and controlling in order to maintain the "love and peace" in the relationship even though its being forced.

    1. even though he juggles with the thought of suicide the pain of abandonment can put emotions in a soul where those emotions would have been denied.

The impact left between Clarissa his mother and Richard was that Richard was kind of scared and confused about his mother because of her kissing another women in front of his eyes.

Richard is used to love but not a lot of it. So he shows it more than other people to people.

How were Clarissa's choices different than Laura Brown's?
Clarissa & Laura’s choices are different from each other because Laura left her children with somebody to go to a hotel and kill herself but she later found out she couldn’t and Clarissa is depressed when he isn’t with her man and always seems to cry.

Why do you suppose Louis feels there's so little love in the world?
Because he is away from everyone who is depressed so he just stays to himself and be happy.

Do you believe that Clarissa Vaughan is happy with the life she's created? Why or why not?
I think her life is happy but she is not happy. That’s why she tried to go and kill herself.

They both seem to make bad decisions in their lives.

She is a good role model for feminism because she seems to go very into the women characters in the movie and book. She shows us what they feel how they feel it why they feel it.

Clarissa is happy with her life as she is happy of taking care of her former love but at the same time, this life she has is tearing her apart mentally and ruins connections between her and loved ones because she is constantly living in the past.

Virginia Woolf is a good role for feminism because she spoke out for her own self and advocated for women's rights at a time in society where women's rights and lives were limited.

  7. Do you believe that Clarissa Vaughan is happy with the life she's created? Why or why not?

Clarissa Vaughan is not happy with the life that she has created because she relies heavily on her past. She is extremely nostalgic about her past, especially with Richard when they were younger. In the movie she specifically says that when she was with Richard she was truly happy and everything else was just a filling of space. She was never truly happy without Richard; she was empty. Her relationship with Sally was much different than with Richard. With Richard, Clarissa was madly in love, or lust. It was intense, overwhelming, especially the day on the beach when her feelings for him were confirmed. Therefore, Clarissa is not happy with the life she has created. She always wishes that Richard loved her.

Both Clarissa and Louis walked away from Richard. Do you believe there was some quality in his character that kept love at bay?

Richard’s relationship with his mother made him apprehensive to love. When she left him, he built walls up and didn’t let anyone in. He was extremely guarded and he couldn’t open up to love. As a result, both of the loves of his life left him. In addition, his illness didn’t make things better.

  8. Do you believe that Clarissa Vaughan is happy with the life she's created? Why or why not?
I believe that Clarissa brown is happy with the life she created. I think that she is happy it’s just Richards dying is making her have false feelings again because she doesn’t know how she is going to go on without him. She is so desperate to be with him all the time and wants so bad for him to like everything she does for him and to come to the party. “You will come won’t you? Promise me you’ll come.” She wants to savor these last moments so she is detached from her current life a little but she is still happy with it.

Do you believe Virginia Woolf makes a good role model for feminism? Why or why not?

Virginia Woolf is a good role model for feminism. In her book she lets women know its okay for them to make their own decision. Think that part comes from her being sick and all these doctors wanting to make her decisions for her so she wants women to be independent and be strong.

  9. Richard isn't surprised at all by the actions of Clarissa when his mother already left him before. Love is only a temporary feeling and thing for him because he knows anyone who loves him will leave him eventually because he is dying slowly. I feel as if he knows most of the reason for Clarrisa and his mother leaving him is due to him dying eventually with the love they had for him.

Clarrisa doesn't feel complete in her life or as free as she should be. She doesn't make any decisions that might grant her the freedom she deserves if it calls for her leaving Richard. The love she has for Richard is beyond deep and complicating. She lives in body that wants to do what she loves but she cant because her loved one is holding her back.
